His newest track, Italian Ratchet Funk, did not fail to hit the mark dead on the head.  A great combination of old world big band samples and his funny brand of funkiness leave you unable to help dancing, beaming with a shit eating grin. Dan shows his true colors and Detroit heritage, incorporating the jazzy hip hop style pioneered by beat makers like J Dilla into a blend of trap and sampledelia.

Finally, Chewy Chocolate Cookies is starting to receive the attention that he deserves. I’ve written about this Italian-based producer before (here’s the href="http://www.electrojams.com/2013/04/14/who-wants-some-chewy-chocolate-cookies/#.UZKnEZUk_ww">interview); he’s extremely talented, versatile, and a bit camera shy.  CCC’s music is sick and one of his tracks, href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReqfuHBzVQM">“BOOM”, is on the top of my favorites list.

Wooha! Records presents BOUNCE, with remixes of “BOOM” by King Curtis, and another by Skyve. There’s also “Say What” by Joeysuki and the trap remix of “Bitches”  collab with Mightyfools and Yellow Claw’s Bizzey.

A lot of good trap and moombathon.  The remixes of “BOOM” are killer, and the trap remix of “Bitches” by Mightyfools feat. Bizzey is just killer.

M.I.A. – Boyz (glAdiator Remix)

With the massive wave of trap remixes that have been springing up recently, it’s easy to overlook some of the really good ones out there. Luckily, glAdiator’s remix of Boyz by M.I.A. was not one of those tracks that slipped past us. Featured on a mixtape from rap legend Jay-Z’s Life + Times blog, the remix takes the jangling, alternative dance track and transforms it into a glitchy trap song fit for a grimy urban basement party.

At times, the DJ duo’s remix of Boyz is quite reminiscent of the trap mega-hit Bird Machine by DJ Snake and Alesia, thanks to a subtle whistle throughout the track. The best part about this remix, however, is how glAdiatior successfully infused Boyz with their own style, while still keeping integral parts of the original song present. Unlike so many remixes out there, the guys behind glAdiatior understood just how much of the song they could manipulate, while still keeping M.I.A.’s signature style intact. The result: a sickeningly catchy track that gives new life to an alternative classic.

A quick note to producers – not all trap has to sound exactly the same. There a a variety of sub ‘styles’ you can follow, or you can be completely original and make up your own. While this preview of Major Lazer‘s remix of Boing Clash Boom is technically trap, it sound like every other trap remix out there.

Marshall Watson – Butcher EP

A new release from Acid Ted favourite Marshall Watson. His tastes range far and wide, from D&B and ambient, now encompassing trap. The latter is where this EP pitches itself.

The Whole Stwp has a pitched up electronica trap feel but with some hefty sub-bass lodged far into the background. Fern is a much more frondy ambient tune but with an ongoing twitchiness. Sweat Bones is the nearest to a conventional track, sitting somewhere between house, garage and trap. I’m not too sure about this new venture.
