Pete Oak – Suns & Moons EP [Spirit Soul Records]

Coming out on May 27th, Danish native Pete Oak gives us a preview of his upcoming EP that is set to be released on Spirit Soul Records. A collective of two tracks embalmed with a vibe that coincides swimmingly with the hot summer days we have ahead. Starting us off is Don’t Mind,  a track embodied with a catchy and echoing vocals that imprints itself in your head. Furthermore, an upbeat melody built to make you sway to the groove sets in, easily bringing a smile to all listener’s ears. Follow-up tune, Sparks, is sure to be the more ominous side of this EP. One repetitive ‘oh’ has never sounded so good, of course, with the help of the soothing piano melody that ties the track together.

Omar S – Thank U 4 Letting Me Be Myself

This title track is a cut from Omar S‘s recently released album. With a long list of consistent hits and amazing live sets, there’s no doubt that the detroit mainstay has already reached legendary status. With an off kilter kick pattern and some unbelievable chords, Omar S has yet again created another masterpiece which will be featured in many forthcoming dj sets. Omar was quoted saying “I wanted this to be a good listening Album from beginning to end which it is BTW!!”. And that is just what he has accomplished. The whole album is amazing so definitely look below to pick up Thank U 4 Letting Me Be Myself from Juno!

Les Sins – Grind

Chaz Bundick, better known as the indie singer Toro y Moi, has a new side project called Les Sins. With a more electronic feel, he has recently released a couple of songs with more danceable beats with steady kicks and lots of synths. The newest single he has released, Grind, is a super funky tribute to disco and funk. The production, that is definitely EQ’ed with a disco smile, is created with a extremely smooth old school groove. Check out the bonus track we included at the bottom and definitely be sure to pick up his new side project!

Airbird & Napolian – In The Zone (Cascine Records)

I was only going to include the In The Zone single from Airbird & Napolian but both of their singles were just too good! Airbird & Napolian are new duo consisting of Joel Ford and Ian Evans. We aren’t too sure the two linked up, seeing as Joel is from Brooklyn and Evan is from Los Angeles, but we are definitely happy that they did!

Blending elements such as disco, hip hop, RNB, and U.K. Bass the two have created a very high quality, authentic sound. It is definitely apparent from the couple of tracks that they have released that are no strangers to the studio. They are definitely going to be something big when their forthcoming EP, MR. FOOLISH is released. There label, Cascine Records, has not released a date on that EP yet so sit back and enjoy the sounds that they have provided so far. It’s ok these songs are good enough to hold you off until then.

DJ Koze Feat. Matthew Dear – Magical Boy

Stefan Kozalla, aka DJ Koze, is staple to the german club scene and one of the most underrated producers. Known for his hip hop skills, as well as house and disco, Koze brings something on the more minimal side showing us the genre boundaries don’t scare him whatsoever.

Mixing together a weird concotion of what sounds like Willy Wonka, Alice in Wonderland, And Nicolas Jaar, DJ Koze creates a psychedelic soundscape. Bringing on Matthew Dear, who is known for his unorthodox production style and Dj sets, they create an auditory lucid dream with a heavy bass line reminiscent of slowed down binaural tones. A trippy, distorted vocal over the track tops it off to create absolute wonderment, as it takes you on a 7 minute ride, which feels more like 3.

Definitely something for the daring dj’s to work into their sets and the out-of-the-box listeners, DJ Koze’s full project, Amygdala, can be picked up from Juno in the link below!

[Free Download] Emeron & Fox – N.O.V.A.

Here’s a special message from our NYC mates, Emeron & Fox. They’ve offered up another free download following their incredibly big “Nightmares” EP earlier last summer.

N.O.V.A. pushes through this overly reverbed lead female voice that creates an emotional and sentimental atmosphere. My gut reaction was that somewhat lonely feeling you get while rising the last train outta town at night – but more in a dreamlike daze, nah’mean? The overall theme is trippy yet highly danceable and for that, I give respect. Phase 1 of this free release is what you’ll hear above, but there are a pair of pending remixes to come – one from the very-hot-at-the-moment Pete Oak.

Pick this one up for free and take a listen to their classic “Nightmare” track below.

Free Download: Kaskade – Raining (Late Night Alumni Redux Mix)

The prodigal son has returned — and yes I’m speaking about myself. As an avid, die-hard Kaskade fan, I wasn’t really ‘digging’ his recent work and tours, mainly because they’re targeted to a wider audience. And hey, I’m a selfish Kaskade fan! I don’t want overcrowding and high ticket prices, but that’s a topic for another day.

With his ‘It’s You “It’s Me Redux Tour” absolutely kicking ass all over the US, Ryan decided to release a beautiful deep house edit of his big room collaborative anthem with Adam K, ‘Raining‘ put together by his fellow group mates: Late Night Alumni. Over the years, LNA have come to be THE staple in producing vocal, deep house and they really flex their skills on this one. As a go-to track on his recent tour, Kaskade gives this mix away for free to all the fans enjoying the music!

Check it out above, and make sure to download it HERE!

W&W – Thunder [Mainstage Music/Armada Records]

In typical W&W style, Thunder comes out swinging. Ever increasing in popularity, from their massive tune The Code, to ASOT 600, to this new release, the Dutch duo are making strides to becoming one of the biggest names in progressive trance.

W&W stick to their classic plug-ins with this one, giving the song (especially the drop) a massive big room feel. Below is the promotional video for the track, which is just too fun to leave out. Enjoy.

Phonat – Ride The Prejudice [OWSLA Records]

One of my favorite electronic artists of all time, Michele Balduzzi, better known by his producer moniker, Phonat — has finally made his return to dance music. His ever changing electronic, glitch-type tunes were an iconic part of my college years. He makes his return on Skrillex’s label imprint, OWSLA records with ‘Ride The Prejudice‘ — the first release on his 4-track EP, ‘Identity Theft‘.

After nearly three years since his last release – years spent locked away painstakingly developing the exact sound he is looking for – the incredible Phonat returns this summer with a new E.P. “Identity Theft”.

Thanks to Pitchfork for the early listen! Listen & download it HERE.

Asona – Body Works EP [CKM009]

With the insight of Toyboy and Robin, Asona has released a stellar EP named Body Works. Released through Toyboy and Robin’s Cool Kids Label, the EP consists of three songs that deliver quality deep house music that evokes lots of feeling.

The east coast native, Asona, offers up a simply awesome and aptly titled EP, that definitely encourages body movement on the dance floor. With deeply strung melodies and emotive vocal samples, Asona has preparded three original tracks which are testament to his smooth production style and ear for a good groove. Each track delivers its own special blend of danceable soul music, leaving Asona with a project he should be very proud to call his own!

Definitely pick up the Body Works EP , forthcoming on May 27th, if your a true fan of deep house!

Free Download: Say Lou Lou – Julian (The Chainsmokers Remix)

Another week, another fantastic remix from our NYC buddies, The Chainsmokers. And as per usual, with each free download — comes a great, witty spiel that we all laugh (or pretend to laugh) about. This fine Monday the guys release a remix that they’ve been sitting on for weeks. Taking Say Lou Lou‘s original tune ‘Julian‘ and giving it an epic, upbeat Chainsmokers feel to it, will definitely  help that crappy Monday become less crappy (hopefully).

We are really running out of witty things to say…so, yes the song is free, we wouldn’t dare to imagine charging $1.99, yet, but remember, when you are out with your extra $1.99 think, was the happiness this free download brought worth more than $1.99, maybe, maybe not…. either way go LIKE our page and ENJOY your FREE DL, and go take your savings, and buy yourself something special like Daft Punk – The Chainsmokers

[Free Download] Resident Advisor.364 Skudge

Hailing from Stockholm, Skudge, is more then just your average techno duo. Running Skudge Records alongside their techno outfit, they have been making quite the name for themselves putting out the most authentic and original tracks we’ve heard in awhile. Resident Advisor has recently caught wind of Skudge, and sat down to interview them. Included with the interview is one of the dopest mixes we’ve heard all year. Ranging from very modulated Detroit techno to something between house and dark ambient sounds, Skudge is bringing you some very original music to the underground scene.
Listeners Beware: This isn’t your average BS mix! This is something special and unorthodox, and we love every minute of it! We included a track as well so you know what to expect when listening.

Laszlo Dancehall Releases Debut EP on Man Make Music

Whether we were aware of it or not, we all received our first taste of Laszlo Dancehall during George Fitzgerald’s Essential Mix in March. As the head hancho behind Man Make Music, George played out the A-side rhythmic jam Gave Up and has found other rips of the B-side tracks across the interwebs.

Laszlo (nicknamed LZD) are an exciting duo between Leon Vynehall & Christian Piers, and from what you can hear, they’ve pounded out an EP with seemingly monotonous, driving rhythms. That’s the face-value takeaway. Here’s what gets me though – even after 8 minutes of listening to Ain’t No Time, it’s still fresh and interesting … over and over and over again. There’s an intangible quality about what makes the sound of this release so infectious and damn catchy. I can’t put my finger on it but God help me it’s addictive. Hats off to George and the crew at Man Make on a successful launch for Laszlo Dancehall.

Much to some of your chagrin, ManMake’s trippy vinyl copies have already sold out in less than a week – there is an option for digital download, however, if you follow the download tab at the top of our sidebar.

Brendan

I am going to have to think about this one, because since my Mac broke I have not had my recently added music on my iTunes…luckily it is backed up on an external hard drive, but have not had the time to add my 400+GB of music to my new PC. Anyhow, these songs have been getting me going the past few weeks.

1) Doin’ It Right – Daft Punk

I just had to post one of the new Daft Punk tracks in my top 5 since the album leaked this week. Having been a huge fan of Panda Bear / Animal Collective for years, this song is a simple yet elegant positive song. You get the repetitive robot voices and the wonderful voice of Noah Lennox, what more could you ask for?

2) Around the Block ft. Talib Kweli - Pretty Lights

Just when I started to wonder where on Earth Pretty Lights has been (production-wise, not tour-wise), he announced his new album, A Color Map of the Sun. Just like Daft Punk’s album has been getting hype for using live instruments and not only relying on electronics, Derek Vincent Smith announced he too was taking that approach. I cannot wait to hear this album in July and watch the fascinating documentary.

3) Messiah (Feed Me Remix) - Monsta

It is great to hear a Feed Me track that is different from his normal style…no womps or chainsaw noises here, just a feel good track with some outstanding vocals. I think it is better than the original Monsta song.

4) Old School Melody - Bass Physics

This new duo from Denver are trying too hard to sound like Pretty Lights, but that is ay-OK with me being a huge Pretty Lights fan. This is gonna be one of those chill, laid-back songs to listen to while lounging by the pool this summer.

5) Purple Sweat Mix - MartyParty

In preparation for an upcoming tour, MartyParty has released a 30 minute mix of seven new unreleased, future bass trap songs. With great hip-hop samples and chill trippy instrumentals, this mix will get you bobbin your head.

Charles

I feel like with the level dance music is at on any given day there may be 5 songs I find that become my favorites. There are so many genres and subgenres that it seems like there is literally an endless amount of dance music. But whatever its 9,000 fans and we had to do it big, so I will attempt to highlight only five tracks that I’m truly addicted to.

1) Only You Can Show Me (feat. Mereki) - Goldroom

It’s finally starting to feel like summertime and all I’ve been listening to is feel good music. Goldroom gives me just what I want and makes me think of listening to this at some sort of disco pool party.

2) You Are Dangerous (RAC Mix) - Steel Train

RAC has been on fire as of recently, releasing remix after remix, and of the handful he’s released this has been my favorite. There’s nothing I like better than a good set of vocals, and with RAC’s flare on the beat it results in a certain top 5 track for me.

3) God Created the Beat (Matrixxman Groove Mix) - Matrixxman

With a dance floor shaking kick and some awesome metal percussion, I think it is safe to say that god definitely created this beat and I cannot get enough of it.

4) Disco Special (Funk Ferret Edit) - Discotheque

Disco rules, plain and simple, and we’re finally on the road for the return of it. With almost 7 and a half minutes of disco, you know I had to include this song. When the vocal samples start hitting, I challenge you to remain seated.

5) Never Let You Go - Solidisco

So I had never heard this song until it was the opening song in Solidisco’s PB&J Jam Sessions, and from that moment on I was hooked. This duo showcases their awesome take on the timeless genre of disco house. And if you haven’t listened to the entire 30-minute minimix they did for us, you should, right now.

Mala – Changes (Harmonimix)

If you have never heard of James Blake‘s electronic alias, Harmonimix, don’t feel bad! Many of these rare recordings have never been released. Try and imagine James blake taking his harmonies and remixing them into U.K. bass and garage music. That’s exactly what this is. It’s amazing. Rare gems, like his Harmonimix of Miss Jackson (see Here), have been infamously craved by fans on youtube.

James Blake is finally releasing the Mala – Changes (Harmonimix) remix. After being on the hunt for the most quality version, and only hearing distorted live versions on youtube for a year or two, I’m ecstatic. After being played as a rare exclusive by Mala and Blake, It’s finally being released by James as a forthcoming, One-Sided 12″ White Label on 20/5/13. If you want to hear some dope U.K. bass music with tons of aura, looked below and witness the genius that is James Blake.

Heinrichs & Hirtenfellner – LENZ [Supdub Records]

Once you get past the tongue-twisting name, it is clear that these German studs are ready to implode on the dance music scene as a team. A collective duo consisting of Sascha Braemer and Alfred Heinrichs – two Berlin bred DJs/producers that know their way around a chunky bass line. Crossing paths in the early 2000′s, the chemistry they had in the studio was undeniable. They meshed their years of experience and created an album that is filled with emotions. In my opinion, an album is successful if you can listen to it fully through every time – each time it takes you on a musical journey. Eleven tracks that each bring a certain vibe and groove that will flow on any dance floor. Title track, Lenz, is undoubtedly one of the most powerful tunes; built with a soulful vocal and melancholic piano melody that makes you feel like you are floating on a cloud. Continuing on to a drop that has come to be a signature sound of theirs, coinciding a funk yet still minimal groove. A certain and very consistent funk that is guaranteed to keep your feet moving. Open your ears and arms to what Heinrichs & Hirtenfellner  have to offer!

Purchase: Vinyl

Digital is set to released May 27th on Subdub Records

Thank You To Our 9,000 Facebook Fans! Presenting our Editors Top 5 Current Tracks, Vol 4.

Morning folks. Today we present you Volume 4 of our writer’s top 5 picks, brought you by Andrew and Cameron. Let’s not waste time, so let’s jump straight to it and be sure to check out Volume 1, Volume 2, and Volume 3 if you haven’t yet! Let’s go!

*   *   *   *   *

Andrew

1) Walter White - Above & Beyond

This track has great progression, a brilliant array of trance synths, high chords, and is just a really pleasant sounding song. I love Above & Beyond for their dedication to their style, and attentiveness to detail within a track. This one is no different. And with a name like Walter White, it’s gotta be good.

2) All I Can Give You (Ashley Wallbridge Remix) - Letthemusicplay ft. UTRB

A synth driven progressive trance track that goes from big build ups to synth leads to the likes of Eric Prydz, I like this track for the layering of the pads to the old school inspired vocals. A great remix from UK producer Ashley Wallbridge.

3) Never Say Goodbye - Hardwell & Dyro

A progressive house banger that I simply cannot get out of my head. This track, debuted during Hardwell’s mainstage set at Ultra, is catchy, dancy, and truly has infectious vocals. This one is sure to gain a ton of attention as it comes close to it’s release date of May 20.

4) Animals - Martin Garrix

What has been previously listed across the internet as a collaboration between Hardwell and GTA is actually a new single from Martin Garrix. This track is big, up in your face, and has a furious jungle drop. Stay posted for more information, as rumors continue to surface about this song.

5) Messiah (Dirty South Remix) - Monsta

New progressive house from the remix master, this track is straight and to the point. Nothing revolutionary, yet lacking nothing as well. Real catchy and fun with great vocals.

*   *   *   *   *

Cameron

1) Do You (Cashmere Cat Remix) - Miguel

Or anything cashmere cat for that matter, he is and has been my #1 for 2013 and Diplo’s recent obsession with him only confirms my eye and ear for everything this fucker does. He’s a BOSS.

2) - Only You (Special Features Remix) - Ellie Goulding

Been a fan of this kid for a while, he had that unreal remix of Mau5’s strobe that blew up in 11 or early 12. He has a knack for layering and creating intense progressive builds that I can listen to over and over again even though I can’t seem to be able to play an normal progressive tracks.

3) Open (Ryan Hemsworth remix) - Rhye

This song obviously is amazing alone but I love Ryan’s touches, he’s really talented and after seeing him live I am even more of a fan. An older edit of Tinashe’s ‘Boss’ is still on repeat.

and Ryan Hemsworth’s edit of ‘Boss’

4) Seraphina (Original Mix) - Religion

These boys are pretty unknown and use to produce a good amount of progressive stuff but recently they have come out with a few nu trap (yes I just said that) tracks that I think bridge more of the commercial hip-hop to trap to progressive and overall and just sound really dope. Wait for the 2:02 mark on that bad boy.

5) Trying To Be C
ool (The Chainsmokers Remix) - Phoenix

Pretty much can’t argue with the stuff these two put out, they usually put spins on some indie pop tracks that are easy listening and fun. They can be more progressive or lighter to the ear which I enjoy.

*   *   *   *   *

So that does it for today, we’ve got one more installment coming your way tomorrow. Stay tuned!

[Preview] Lana Del Rey – Young & Beautiful (Marcus Schossow Summer Remix)

Despite the mixed reviews of The Great Gatsby, there is no denying that the soundtrack they put together for the film was nothing short of stellar. With Jay-Z as the executive producer of the album, it was bound to be huge and Lana Del Rey’s “Young & Beautiful” immediately found its way into the iTunes top 10. The Nordic producer, Marcus Schossow decided to do his own interpretation of the track. Here’s how he put it:

“I wanted to make something you can actually listen to at home as well without having to do a fist pump every second. The original track had so much love and i tried to pass that on in this remix” – Marcus Schossow

The remix will be available soon via Marcus’s Facebook page, but for the time being you can check out the preview at the top of the page. And fear not, when he makes it available, you’ll be the first to know. So keep it locked on the JAM!

Silence In Metropolis Announces Sophomore Release with P.LOPEZ

Underground house is making a comeback in the district. I sure hope it is.

We last caught up with our DC deep label hombres, Silence In Metropolis when they launched their label with Dale Howard a couple months back. Back so soon with their second release, the guys have commissioned experienced Paraguayan producer P.Lopez for a pair of originals. Shame, along with it’s B-side remix from Matt Fear, takes a psychedelic and shuffley approach with a naturally flowing garage rhythm underneath. Quite a saucy sound and would overwhelmingly either recommend as solid choices for opening tracks (but what do I know?).

Dig deeper into Lopez’s Keeping Up track and you’ll find an organic but not overly-reverbed tech house track that I can already feel slapping off the walls of a dank, basement venue. Matches accompanies with a remix that takes an even slightly deeper, somewhat tribal and groove-intensive approach.

The whole EP has received some early support for Maya Jane Coles, Waifs & Strays, Xpress 2, and the big man himself, Kerri Chandler. But as I’ve always said, the proof is in the pudding – press play and trust your ears.

Vinyl is available for now by clicking through our download link to the right. If that’s not your style, hold tight for a Beatport release on Monday, May 20th.

Tracks:

1. Shame
2. Shame ( Matt Fear Remix )
3. Keeping Up
4. Keeping Up ( Matches Remix )

[Free Download] Chocolate Puma – Get The Bone

The Dutch duo, Chocolate Puma hit 30,000 Likes on Facebook and decided to give a little something back to every single one of those fans:

[Free Download] Lancelot – You’ll Never Be Mine EP

We are known for making bold statements over here at PB&J. And we’re usually right. I’m going to go ahead and make the claim that Lancelot‘s’ E.P., You’ll Never Be Mine , is one of the top five best E.P.’s this year. Lancelot, hailing from Australia, has a fresh production style coupled with catchy samples just makes for some of the most refreshing house music I’ve in a while.

The title track of the E.P., You’ll Never Be Mine, has an ethereal set of arpeggiated chords with a vocal sample that unknowlingly slips you into a trance; not to mention, the video is kaleidoscopic montage of dope throwback images from the 80′s.

The b-side of the E.P. features The Way I Feel About You. It has a hard hitting drum pattern, one of the smoothest chords I’ve heard in a while, and sharp sample from the S.O.S Band’s single ‘The Finest’. The bass line sounds like a cross between Earth, Wind, and Fire and Masters At Work giving you the most authentic house feel in the record.

The best part about Lancelot is that he supports: “Real musicians playing real instruments (not laptops) through chunky, analogue hardware in expensive studios. Only the very best would have a chance to present their work to the masses on stage or on wax.” Integrity behind the music is what we love. This E.P. is definitely PB&J certified!

Check out the music video for the first single below and MAKE SURE to download this E.P. because it’s free and F**K*** awesome!

Exclusive Preview: Kaskade – Atmosphere

The Illinois born, Ryan Raddon, better known by his stage name, Kaskade, is one of the greatest DJ / producers in America. His start in deep house, propelled him to stardom as he moved towards more big-room, progressive tracks. Receiving a lot of flack for ‘straying from his original sound’, Kaskade presents ‘Atmosphere.’ In the midst of his “It’s You, It’s Me Redux Tour“, Kaskade teases the preview for this new tune. Self labeled as a ‘Indie House’ track, the tune definitely sees Ryan divert from his usual production sounds. The more down-tempo’d, vocal based ‘Atmosphere’ has such an ethereal vibe to it compared to his recent hits. Out on June 10th via Beatport, make sure to pick this one up!

Thank You To Our 9,000 Facebook Fans! Presenting our Editors Top 5 Current Tracks, Vol 3.

Here we go, it’s round 3 of our editors top 5 picks. Today, Shirley and Zach drop some bombs on us all. I’ll keep this short so you can get straight to the music, but be sure to check out Volume 1 and Volume 2 from the past two days if you haven’t yet. Let’s go!

*   *   *   *   *

Shirley

My musical taste is constantly going through roller coaster rides – whether its heavy, driven techno to soulful deep house it is all filled with passion. Usually, I enjoy starting my days out with some easy listening deep house and ending with mind scrambling techno. So, that is how I’d like to guide you through my top current tracks.

1)  Velvet (Original Mix) - David August

August recently released, Times, on Dyinamic and it stirred quite the storm in the underground music world. ‘Velvet’ takes you through an ambient journey embalmed with wind chime noises that ease you right into a groove that keeps you swaying.

2)
Scottish (NTFO & Rhadow Remix) - Davide De Michelle, Gabry Dee

Although this track is not relatively new, it is a remix that i consistently play at least once a day. NTFO & Rhadow cultivate a jazz feel mixed in with a bouncy deep house sound – before you know it the wooden blocks take this track by storm; bombarding all dance floors.

3) Our Sun (Original Mix) - Dexter Ford

There really aren’t many words that could properly describe a masterpiece like this. Being introduced to this track by the legendary Marco Carola – it is safe to say that this was produced for listeners with distinct, acquired taste. Simply put, raise your volume speakers all the way up and allow the strange organ noises surround your environment.

4) Farbfilm (Dyed Soundorom Remix) - Daze Maxim

Kicking  up the BPM a little “just like this”  - Frenchmen and ⅓ of Appollonia continues to impress dance music fanatics (especially me). Continuously taking the island vibe of Ibiza and cultivating it in a tech-house work of art, this man is someone to always keep an eye out for. Regardless if he is playing solo or with buddies Shonky and Dan Ghenacia.

5) City Destroyer, Pt 1 (Original Mix) - Slam

From the start of this post, I knew I was going to end with a Slam track – picking which one out of their massive discography was a difficult task. A little fun facts to start out with, these two Glasglow natives have been a crucial part of not only techno, but dance music in general. Founders of the reputable Soma Records – these guys know what they are doing. A unique techno sound that is heavy, yet still melodic and extremely melodic. In a nutshell, Slam produce “mind controlling” techno.

*   *   *   *   *

Zach

Top 5 songs? I might as well compile a list of every genre and style that’s emerged since 1989, and pick at random while blindfolded. My roots are deeply invested in punk, alternative rock and hip-hop, though over the years I’ve shifted into somewhat of a house/dance music junkie. I typically don’t mind a portion of the contemporary mainstream, as long as I can interpret some sincere, artistic value that appeals to my specific tastes.

1) All You (Angger Dimas Remix) - Kaskade

Though I haven’t been so impressed with his more recent work with Dim Mak, Angger Dimas is still my #1 favorite electronic producer out there today. Why he didn’t continue his music path with more Dutch mentorship is beyond me. I hope Angger soon returns to his roots, because this kid knows his way around a drum rack better than anyone.

2) Latch - Disclosure ft. Sam Smith

By summer 2012, I had been introduced to the world of UK Garage. No garage artist or duo have captured more of my attention than Disclosure: and I’m not going to list a lesser known artist/song for the sake of being cool and underground. “Latch”, one of Disclosure’s biggest hits to date is one of kind — an element that’s hard to come by nowadays. I don’t plan to stop bumping this tune any time soon, “Ne-ver”.

3) Pain (Prod. by Santana & P-Thought) - Fabolous

Surprise, surprise! I had to change things up. Hip-hop is what got me into DJing and producing music, so I felt it a crime if I didn’t diversify. Of all my favorite hip-hop, including Wiz Khalifa’s Kush & OJ mixtape, most of Curren$y’s discography and from Dipset to Hit-Boy and more, Fabolous has always had an edge in my book. The Soul Tape is a well-crafted masterpiece of a mixtape, and “Pain” has the power to get your head bobbing and really speaks on an emotional level.

4) Thinking About You - Calvin Harris ft. Ayah Marar

Calvin Harris is house music’s king of pop. He also happens to be one of the few artists responsible for bringing me into the scene. I’ve been bumping “Thinking About You” since mid-late 2012, and haven’t been able to take it off any of my readily available playlists. It’s simple. It grooves. It’s the overlooked gem of Calvin’s 18 Months studio album. Besides a couple questionable collaborations for some heavily progressive-based tracks (of which I’m not a huge fan), Calvin Harris stays true to his element: and it’s what got me into dance music.

5) Ruby Soho - Rancid

So, I included this song as a TOTAL wildcard. Like I mentioned in my intro, I was heavily influenced by street punk during my adolescent years. I used to wear studs and spikes, combat boots and dye my hair funky colors. I played drums in bands as fast as I humanly could, and ‘screamed’ for others. “Ruby Soho” is a classic, alternative punk, feel good track that will stick with me forever. A band like Rancid needed to make my list with the amount of original, talent-driven material they’ve created, over the many, many years. I dare you to Google Matt Freeman’s “Maxwell Murder” bass solo and tell me you can’t appreciate what this band does. Oi!

Kendrick Lamar – Swimming Pools (Karma Kid’s 4AM Edit)

Honestly, I told my friend earlier in the week that I plan to move somewhere in the UK, solely for all the good music that will be surrounding me. Karma Kid lets loose a free download of his Kendrick Lamar edit for ‘Swimming Pools‘. The single was a huge club hit for Kendrick, but Karma Kid gives the entire song under a deep, down-tempo’d garage makeover. The finished product is a groovy tune that encapsulates all of the energy of the original while still crossing into other genres, production wise. Pick up this edit HERE!

Paul

I get bored having to explain every little detail about the songs; I think a better way (“a better way” obviously meaning more fun for me) is to describe my top five songs in the form of haikus. See below.

1) Heartbreaks + Setbacks – Thundercat

Thundercat plays bass,
Strumming the best harmonies.
No one can compete.

2) The Withywood Walk – Eats Everything

Everything bounces.
Eats delivers bristol bass.
Dirty late night grooves.

3) All Day, All Night – DJ Romain

Rest in Peace Dope Jams
They gentrify Brooklyn now,
But real house lives on!

4) Pulsate (Steve Rachmad Remix) – Jaydee

Refrain from sitting;
But of course you must dance hard.
Rachmad controls you.

5) Lost (Amine Edge & DANCE Remix) (Demo) - Frank Ocean

Bass makes me facepalm.
Amine and Dance’s hood shit.
Demo bangs too hard.

Jackson

Whether a house track came out today or 20 years ago, it lives and dies by its rhythm. By that standard, truly timeless music never ages. But since there’s a strict policy to stick to current favorites, these 5 are what’s happenin’ now.

1) Tell Me – Flubba

Naughty, sexual and loud – Flubba has come a long way since his disco days (ie when I started with PB&J). His latest release on ADD Cats has been the most on-point and clear cut house I’ve heard from him.

2) Lied – Tigerskin

I played an opening set in DC a few months back and opened with this track. A man in his early 40s was on a date with a young-ish woman; and he was white-girl wasted. He approached me and asked “Is Jimmy playing tonight?” After giving him a non-reassuring head shake and two palms up, he frowned and walked away. Less than a minute later, he was dancing hysterically to Tigerskin. It may not seem like much but that’s a moment I really do cherish.

3) New Life (Perseus ‘Summer of 83’ Remix) – Jeremy Glenn

Flashback to summer of 2011 – no one had heard of Leon Oziel outside a pair of remixes. This track changed my perspective on dance music and to this day, hearing it live still gives me chills. Recently popping up on my shuffle, Perseus’s deep summer classic has worked its way back into my listening rotation this past month (year?).

4) Darling - D3ADL1NE

As heard on Isaac Tichauer’s April 2013 Mix – I had been replaying this one for hours last week trying to find it. Percussion arrangement is sublime and you know it!

5) Melt – Jackson Ryland

This was my first track I put together last August. It was meant for someone special – but we stopped talking shortly after and only recently I decided to revisit and master the thing.

The festivities continue tomorrow with our third installment!

Gary Beck – Rascal EP [BekAudio]

Gary Beck is commonly known for his unique taste of heavy, driven techno that allows you to simply lose your mind on the dance floor. The “Rascal EP”, out today, has all the elements of accentuating the vision that he has cultivated on his label, BekAudio. Beginning off with the titled track, Rascal, it is safe to say that Beck produced this with the thoughts of scaring its listeners (in the best way possible).  With the endless bone-chilling chimes, stuttered bass lines, simple hi-hats; Beck has done it again. Video Siren is all techno, no other way to really describe it. Taking it back to the simple roots of one haunting, mesmerizing bass line embodied by a repetitive, creepy chant. Not to mention the random spurts of white noise, this UK-bred DJ/producer has obviously found his knack.

Disclosure – You & Me ft. Eliza Doolittle (Baauer Remix)

While Daft Punk were dominating the music news cycle yesterday, another duo was preparing for the release of their debut album. The brothers Guy and Howard aka Disclosure plan to release ‘Settle‘ on June 3rd. Meanwhile in the states, the ‘Harlem Shake‘ producer Baauer tries his hand at everyone’s favorite ‘right now’ tune from the upcoming album, ‘You & Me’. With more a percussion based track, his remix has a rock feel rather than his classic ‘trap’ style productions. Just released on SoundCloud, Baauer says that this will be released on May 21st.

Cream Dream – Tripoli (Michael Woods ReMaster)

I always get excited to hear new material from progressive house veteran Michael Woods. His overall sense of melody and harmony are unmatched in today’s house music world. As the label master of Diffused Records, I always have high expectations of who Mr. Woods signs and supports. I’d be lying if I said I was disappointed with this one! Newcomers, Double Cream have made their Diffused debut with a massive and uplifting track called “Tripoli”. Michael Woods even lends a helping hand in the remaster. Just in time for festival season, “Tripoli” features some solid, full feel-good synths with a HUGE drop that will make any club or festival crowd jumping, raging and leaving all their worries behind.

Du Tonc – Surging Memories

Three months ago, I enacted a feature on my iPhone that I rarely ever use. I pressed the “repeat” button on the music player until it was set to repeat the current track being played until I told it to stop 30 minutes later when I got to my desk. The brainchild of Matt Van Schie and Mighty Mouse, better known these days as Du Tonc, created a musical masterpiece called “Darkness” and I must’ve listened to it day in and day out for hours on end for at least two straight weeks. “Darkness” was going to be hard to follow up on, but without surprise Du Tonc dropped their newest single “Surging Memories” to their intoxicating repertoire. Somewhere between pop rock and nu disco laced with Van Schie’s dreamlike vocals, Du Tonc seems to transcend any given genre and create some seriously heart-warming, uplifting stuff. For those of you living in California, Philadelphia, or New York, be sure to check these guys out in June. And if you haven’t heard “Darkness” either, please, for your own sake, go right now to the video link above and pump up the volume!

James Barnsley – The Spellbinder EP [Innercirlce]

The long overdue Spellbinder EP has been on hold from the talented Mr. James Barnsley for well over a year. Today, he finally releases the EP, releasing the built up tension for many DJ’s and listeners worldwide. Definitely one of the better EP’s released lately, James Barnesly has very smooth production style that, when coupled with his amazing vocal samples, creates authentic house grooves that are undeniably good.

Up above is one of my favorite tracks, Don’t You Know , which has a super slick and bouncy groove topped off with a dope chorused sample. Also included are an absolute bomb set of remixes from Jordan Peak and Andrade which won’t disappoint. This stellar late night groove is guaranteed to garner tons of attention now that it is fully released.

Pig & Dan – Mamasita (Original Mix)

In honor of Techno Tuesday, we are delivering some quality techno from Pig & Dan. Their newest single Mamasita is filled with enough hard hitting kicks and dark sounds for any tech head to be satisfied. These guys are Veteran’s of tech house and techno so definitely catch them live if you can; They really are something special!

Bicep x Simian Mobile Disco – Sacrifice

Here’s one you listen to and think “Jesus, such a simple melody – why didn’t I think of it!?” Well boohoo, ya didn’t and the by-product of a Bicep & Simian Mobile Disco collaboration is this wonderfully trancey-techno lovechild. The Bicep boys sent us a nice little press release and admit themselves the track is “built around a simple, repetitive melody” and, here’s where it gets interesting, “laid down over tape.” There’s certainly nothing revolutionary about that but it’s a notably different approach from most productions nonetheless.

The only disappointment with this announcement is the allusion that this is a one-time deal collaboration. Who knows…we can only hope this would spark more cross-breeding between these boys because we could all use some larger doses of precisely punctuated techno. Buuut for now the single, Sacrifice, is available for vinyl pre-order (via Juno) by clicking through our download tab to the right. Otherwise, hold tight for June 24th on a digital release.

Zander

1) Bravado – Lorde

The slow progression of the melody with a lyrical focus takes me into a serious groove to crank out some tedious work. Or put this on and just sit back and watch the sun set at the end of a long day as the snare line takes over.  The whole EP “Love Club” gets two thumbs up from this guy.

2) Hallelujah Anyway (Larse Vocal Mix) - Candi Staton

I honestly cannot tell you how many times I have listened to this tune since first hearing it a few weeks ago.  An educated guess would place the number at around 75 or 80.  The soulful lyrics from the ever so eloquent Candi Staton on top of a funky remix to the beat is really all you need in a track.  I’m listening to it now as I write this blurb and am still bouncing and smiling as if it was my first time through!

3) We’ll Be There - Cheshire

Glitchy, heavy bass line, lyrical hooks and a bit of funk? Yeah that’s got me written ALL over it! After getting sent this track through Spotify, it took all of 15 seconds to get a Star and placed in three playlists.

4) This Is What It Feels Like (W&W Remix) - Armin Van Buuren

Leaving this track for the Encore at ASOT600 was a moment of beauty. Did I cry? Maybe. Did I smile? Definitely. Did I dance harder then I did all night? Absolutely! And to top it all off, Trevor was there to serenade us in person. Gorgeous tune in so many aspects, I recommend grabbing the whole “Intense” album which was just released a little bit ago.

5a) Falling (Duke Dumont Remix) - Haim

Slow Jam, summer-sun-rise jam, funky-almost-moombah jam.  Whatever you want to call it, it’s a whole bunch of groovy!  Duke Dumont has been a long-standing favorite of the PB&J family, and here he goes again giving testament to that ideal. Live, love, enjoy.

5b) Diplo & GTA - Boy Oh Boy

YEAH RIGHT I WAS GONNA STOP AT FIVE! Especially with this JAMMMM still blasting my headphones on a daily basis! ’nuff said.

Honorable Mentions: Reckoning Song/ One Day (Wankelmut Remix) – Asaf Avidan, Mojos; Clarity (Zedd Union Mix); Techno Terry – Caspa; Smoke my herbz – Sizzla; Wah Some Grades – Vybz Kartel; Hipster Cutthroat – DotEXE; Love and light – Sounduo

My top Playlists right now contain a bunch of timeless tracks, but are fairly well organized and you all will hopefully find an unknown favorite. At least three playlists are updated daily, follow away and get to dancing!

Float the Aural River – Those summer days when nothing can sway your positive demeanor.

Smile, it’s easier – Name says it all, that happy shit that will get you through a rough time or when you just want to listen to smiles all day long.

ya groove thing – You love it, your parents love it too because it’s all disco influenced to make you shake ya groove thing.

get dubbed up – Not the Grimiest bass lines but not the softest either, this is a happy medium to help you start your friday night on that level!

Mike

Narrowing down my endless library down to five tracks wasn’t easy, but these five are all tracks I literally cannot get enough of recently. I love that feeling of listening to a set and then out of the blue, boom, a track I’ve never heard overwhelms me. This is how I find my hidden gems. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone with artist knowledge. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the amount of talent overflowing in electronic music right now.

1) Ducks in the Kiddie Pool – Click | Click

I’ve been hearing this in a few sets recently and it [expletive] BUMPS. The bassline is so heavy it’s impossible to not get your groove going to this.

2) Only For Tonight (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs) – Zinc

Can Orlando Higginbottom (yes, that’s his real name) do any wrong? No. Nothing else needs to be said about TEED or this monster track.

3) Pump It All – Fantaboys

An older track, but the funk factor is out of control on this one. I haven’t been able to pinpoint what the vocal sample on this is, but between that bassline and the old-school vocals, this track has been on constant repeat on my post-work subway playlist.

4) Voyeur (Bear//Face Bootleg Edit) – James Blake

I had to change it up a bit on this one. There’s no denying James Blake’s genius, and Bear//Face, a rising talent out of Belfast, takes the haunting vocals from the original “Voyeur” and gives this track an amazingly uplifting feeling. At just under 3 minutes, this track never fails in giving me chills each time I listen to it.

5) No Eyes – Claptone ft. Jaw

It’s insanely difficult to cut down my current favorites down to a top 5, but when you listen to a track multiple times a day, for weeks on end, this was hands down the easiest track to pick for me. From the bassline to the undeniably gorgeous vocal bridge leading to the breakdown at 4:44, this track leaves me in utter awe of the talent in music today. This is the why I love this scene with every bit of my heart. This is why I spend countless paychecks to see my favorite artists live. This is perfection.

Hope you enjoyed our first installation, stayed tuned in this week for the rest of our picks!

Flight Facilities – I Didn’t Believe ft. Elizabeth Rose (Tiger and Woods Remix)

Tiger and Woods. Flight Facilities. Disco. That is all.

Kidding. All jokes aside though, I just saw this pop up on my Soundcloud feed and with these two names involved I couldn’t not click play. With the funkiest of bass lines, Tiger and Woods build up this remix with their signature disco-house sound, bringing us back to Studio 54. I’ve been a huge Flight Facilities fan since I fell in love with their remix of “With You”, but I’ll be honest, I only recently got into Tiger and Woods, and now I realize what all the hype is about. If your diggin’ this funk, head over to Tiger and Woods’ Soundcloud page for some great disco sets to get yourself jammin’ to.

Laberge – Falling Away EP [Homebreakin Records]

Out today, Laberge, graces us with an EP filled with tracks consisting of futuristic breaks and atmospheric vibes. This five-track EP begins with Falling Away, an ambient but still danceable track embalmed with a catchy, high-pitched vocal that adds to the spacey-ness sound that Laberge is commonly known for. Following up is At Night, a groove that perfectly merges a smooth, melodic sound with a hint of a jazzy vibe. Veering away from the ambient sound and heading towards a disco vibe, Yesterday, is a track filled with funk that coincides perfectly with the electric piano.

Concluding this EP are two heavy-hitting remixes of Falling Away from the likes of Chris James and Terrence Pearce. James’ interpretation refines the sound with a more hypnotic, floaty vibe that gravitates the listener. Picking things up several notches, Pearce gives the track the deep house treatment. An energetic bass line that is swiftly joined by the catchy vocals – this EP is absolutely a solid choice from Homebreakin Records!

L’Étranger – Don’t Ever Change EP

L’Étranger (loosely translated “The Stranger”) – Ben Thomas has been no stranger to his French touch stylings over the past few years. To commemorate a different slant to his productions, he’s launched a new label, Thomorrow. The primary focus will be to showcase some of his one-offs and a slightly deeper side of his daily production routine.

So here’s the first go – “Don’t Ever Change” EP. I took a listen to these tracks last week and was delightfully impressed with the melding of a tropical, deep groove all through the lens of Ben’s sample-cutting French touch background. A strong nod to his choice in percussion – quite on point with the 90s style hits and hi-hats. As he’s indicated to us, the soul purpose behind this new project was the curate something much more house-intensive. And you damn well know I dig the hell outta that.

A standout favorite, though, has to be the last track - Ask. It’s a shorter, quarky half hip-hop & half break beat track. Strangely melodic and lodged in the back of my brain, Ben gets an extra gold star in my book for that one. Very original.

A progressive approach and a distinct sound from Ben - Don’t Ever Change EP is out today and available via iTunes. Vibe out.

Moon Boots – Love Strong

Like a Godsend through the rampant social media outcry, Moon Boots answers my prayer for something to listen to besides the leaked Daft Punk album. Almost as if to remind everyone – “Hey, there’s thousands of other new tracks being released on a daily basis as well.”

But no one likes a cry baby so I’ll just drop that point. On to another point, Moon Boots is on point with his latest single Love Strong. Nope, not released yet – this is a preview to French Express‘s freebie tomorrow. We’ll give you an update hopefully in the AM when the full version is available. Summer vibes for all.

[Album Review] Daft Punk – Random Access Memories (Columbia Records)

It’s official, even the most mysterious of artists can slip up here and there….or did they?!  This is one of the happiest moments I have had since finding out this album was real!  The most anticipated release of the last decade has come to fruition a week early, and we are right there to let you know! The iTunes stream that was made available today did not have any encryption on the files, so it begs the question: “Is this yet another marketing scheme from the Frenchmen?” Find the low quality leak elsewhere, and let us know what you think!

I have not had a chance to get all the way through the tracks yet, but after quick sampling, all I can say is WOW! Check back later on for my full review of this masterpiece.

Random Access Memories Review

Support the artists by purchasing!

There is a very common theme throughout the tracks, something that is not generally seen in EDM albums. This is very positive as it allows you to roll the whole thing into a single event. While they are similar, the variation of the tracks is evident and there is a focus on a separate characteristic of each song. So to start this overview, let’s get my negative impressions on the production out of the way first, now that I’ve listened to the whole thing 5 times back-to-back-to-back-etc, there is one thing that gave me a slight tic every time I heard it. Id est, I felt as though the synthesized vocals were a bit over used, while they can be seen as a defining trait of R.A.M. Thomas and Guy could have eased off of them slightly. Yeah, and that’s all I have to say in a negative light!

The production from start to finish is phenomenal, as I said earlier in the day to a friend of mine, ‘Random Access Memories is a journey through sound and technical excellence!” The duo demonstrates an uncanny ear for detail and every single layer of audio is cleanly meshed with the higher or lower aspects. As was pointed out in the first episode of the Collaborators series by Giorgio, Daft Punk agonizes over the smallest snippets of chord progression; this perfectionism is exorbitantly apparent in R.A.M.

We would love to hear your personal opinions on this piece as well, so grab the album next week from iTunes, and let us know!

Personal favorite tracks:

“Giorgio by Morodor” has a slight STS9 or Lotus feel to it, with the almost jam-band texture.
“Within” is an absolute ballad
“Lose Yourself To Dance” is 70s Disco reincarnate through both the lyrical melody and progression of the harmony
“Get Lucky” is slightly different from the release a few weeks ago, and it’s still fantastic
“Motherboard” has a subtle snare line that drags me into a serious trance as the bubbles flow from the melodic string section. This has quite the Hans Zimmer aesthetic to it with the Movie Theme feel.
“Doin it Right” the sub-bass thump vibrates my eyes, that’s enough to make it onto any top tracks list!

[Free Download]: Chris Malinchak – So Good To Me (Ejeca FREEmix)

Back before French Express had their own BBC Essential Mix spotlight and half the hype surrounding them, Chris Malinchak churned out a soft disco hit last October that would make him famous – “So Good To Me”. Since then Pete Tong went batshit insane for Malinchak and before you knew it, he’s playing major festivals this summer.

Right now, “So Good To Me” is #2 in the UK Top 40. I know it’s not the most popular stance I’ve ever taken but the original version is a piece of garbage. Chris has produced a library of tunes blurring the lines between disco and straight New Jersey soul-slammin house. It’s head-slappingly bizarre that THIS soft track is the one he’s now famous for. A tragedy that only gets worse because one of my favorite producers, MK, put out a remix of this track last month. “Great!” I thought, “he’ll flip this one around and slice the vocals like he usually does and make something incredible!” Nope. Just a 7-min fart with the same cheesy chord progression. I have all the respect in the world for these two producers but both of these tracks were such a letdown. And, yes, the other official remixes weren’t all that sterling either.

Enter Ejeca - not that it’s specifically his job to produce a track we’re expecting from him…but he did just that. House, soul and something I could actually envision a group of people dancing to. Per usual, what sets this track off is an impeccably instinctive rhythm throughout. Let’s get back to focusing on house music, hombres.

Exclusive: Axwell produces main radio version of ‘Falling’ (Committed to Sparkle Motion) from Discopolis

UPDATE: We’re back with the exclusive news that Axwell actually produced the main radio version for Falling (Committed to Sparkle Motion) and you can buy it HERE now!

WOW! HOLY SH*T! Never did I expect to ever see this in a million years. Swedish House Mafia legend Axwell has put together a beautiful masterpiece of downtempo, groovy music. After the recent dismantling of their group, each member has begun producing indvidudally again. The man known for his big room, larger than life productions, has completely slowed things down as he commits himself to making new music. Discopolis had a major hit on their hands with the release of their second singe Falling (Committed to Sparkle Motion), and Axwell provided a gentle touch with his subtle but chilled edit. Encapsulating the original vocals under melodic sytnths and a steady baseline, Axwell has COMPLETELY revamped this progressive track and transformed it into a summer anthem for the Scottish indie band. Although the Dubvision rework of this track was a mainstay in many Swedish House Mafia sets over the past year, Axwell kept this one locked away in his vault!

It’s never good to judge a book by its cover, and unfortunately I’m sure that’s what most of us blanketed SHM fans have done with Axwell’s production skills. But with this premiere on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show, it’s clear that Axwell can flex his skills far beyond the reach of what we’re used to seeing. The magnetic energy of the remix mixed with it’s potential to be a true classic puts so much buzz on this mysterious edit. Expect a release date via Axwell’s label imprint, Axtone on 3/5!

Matt Tolfrey – Encarta Remixes [Leftroom]

Owner of Leftroom, Matt Tolfrey, finally presents us with another single to Word Of Mouth – an EP that has been stirring up quite the storm. Encanta is set to be the second single to be released, May 15th (vinyl) 29th (digital). Along with the original, DJ Sprinkles and Marco Bernadi will also be releasing their own interpretations.

Tolfrey sets the tone and graces us with a simple, yet still hypnotizing tune. Using a jazzy piano chord that settles right in with the bombarding of the (borderline) break beat snares, which only further induces the track with pure emotion. Marco Bernardi takes Encanta under his wing and accentuates the piano chords, evolving the melody (as well as the vibe) to the more uplifting side. Progressing the track to a more ambient sound, DJ Sprinkles concludes the remixes with the stamping of his signature sound. Lengthening the tune by 11 minutes, the bouncy drum variations and spacey chords gives DJ Sprinkles interpretation a genuine touch.

Golf Clap – Membership Dues EP

Golf Clap -  a pair of Detroit hombres we predicted would achieve incredible accomplishments in the dance and deep house field this year. Now there’s no official indicator as to when they will have achieved these incredible accomplishments, especially considering Hugh & Bryan are relative veterans at their skillset; however, they’ve been pushing out some HUGE productions lately which should catch someone’s eye. Hopefully. Eventually.

Deftly naming their sophomore EP Membership Dues, Golf Clap rides the country club vibe. At this point, I had written out these elaborate run-on sentences melding together jokes about hallucinogens and the importance of using the proper 909 drum machine, but I’ll save those feeble remarks for my broken stand-up career. The full EP has my 100% backing – absolutely underrated and soon to be heard every-elsewhere.

As I’ve stated time and time again, I shouldn’t need to hype up good music and the proof is in the pudding, etc. Press play on “That Dirt”, take it from there and we’ll call it a day.

Get Lucky – Daft Punk (Drop Out Orchestra Edit)

So we all knew this was going to happen, the legends themselves drop their new track and everyone is going to have a hand at a remix. While I normally shun Daft Punk remixes, every now and then someone seems to have done it right, and Drop Out Orchestra struck that chord this time. This Swedish duo pays homage to the great Frenchmen by leaving the majority of the original track in place, only use the chorus of the vocals, and add their signature subtle disco elements to it. Modestly, Drop Out Orchestra has only called this an “edit” and their added slight nuances to Get Lucky really give it a 70s disco feel fitting to be added to the Boogie Nights soundtrack. Even cooler, this track was featured in the background while Pete Tong interviewed Daft Punk recently. Now that’s only my take, what do you all think? Head over Drop Out Orchestra‘s Soundcloud page for more of their music and be sure to check out some of their sensational podcasts!

Anja Schneider – Diagonal EP [Mobilee]

It always come as such a shock to me when someone like Anja Schneider releases an EP or track and it slips through the cracks.  Well, its time to put this EP on the PB&J ‘s spotlight. This tech-house/techno mogul is talented in more ways than I could count on both hands. Not only is she the label head of the reputable Mobilee (and Leena) Records, but she continuously manages to stay on her toes when it comes to her productions.

‘Diagonal’ is a three-track EP that has all the makings of dark, deep, yet groovy techno. Commencing with Diagonal, an ominous melody flows throughout the track that’ll give your body an itching to sway to its groove. Further on, you encounter the most subtle drop that only accentuates the odd noises travelling through your headphones. Once you reach Surrender, it is easy to tell that Schneider is kicking things up a notch, but not that much as she still stays true to that haunting vibe. Beginning it off with a bouncy, chunky bass line with just enough funk to get you going – leading up to a creepy vocal chant that continues to you entice you further. At last, Answers ends this hypnotic EP with an exit that will leave you wanting more. Once again, creepiness and nonchalant bounciness embalms the tune. Anja Schneider’s cultivated use of spooky vocals perfectly meshed with bass lines that make you want to flail your arms in excitement seem to never get old (at least for me).

(Album Sampler) Ekkohaus – No School [Moonharbour]

Ekkohaus has made a triumphant return to Mathias Tannzmann’s worldly known Moon Harbour Records. The German had recently gone into a semi-hibernation, but this sampler proves that he hasn’t lost his touch. Ekkohaus is well-known for his eclectic sounds containing techno to classic Chicago house. His forthcoming album No School is the perfect example of him going back to the roots of just a good, old house groove.

Kicking things off is a soulful tune called ‘Touch House’, which has a vibe that could have dance music veterans reminiscing on the old school sounds they heard at historical places such as Paradise Garage. On beat clapping, subtle chords, and vocal preaching –  a simple, yet always enthusing template that has been used for many tracks without failure.

Calling all vinyl enthusiasts! Add this 12-inch records to your collection by buying it on Juno now! As for the rest of us, make sure to mark your calendars for the digital release – May 17th!

Isaac Tichauer x French Express – Free “Take Over You” EP

Generosity and originality – the two founding pillars of French Express. There’s something to be said about an internationally acclaimed label, showcased at festivals, with nothing more than entirely free releases under their belt.

But let’s pull back and highlight Isaac Tichauer. His “Devotion” album last summer marked a new standard and direction for the label, taking a darker approach to their releases. Indeed, one of my colleagues commented on recent releases as having a “druggier” feel to them. Be that as it may, true FE listeners have been greased long enough for the final release of Tichauer’s “Take Over You” EP. Intricate drum patterns and percussion work throughout these 5 tracks all pull together such a crisp sound and intoxicating rhythm.

I’d love to sit here, nit-pick and try to poke holes in this feature release but I’m too stunned by the quality to make an attempt. Besides, I’ll leave that duty to the uppity snobs at Pitchfork.

A sincere thank you to the American-born French Express label for the freebies. Those who are taking notice appreciate and well-support the cause.

[FREE DOWNLOAD] Hurts – Miracle (Thermalbear 80′s ReRub)

It’s safe to say that when Sasha promotes DJs/producers frequently – they are doing something right. ThermalBear is constantly under the spotlight of Last Night On Earth, gracing us with productions that simply soothes a listener’s ears. Veering more towards the disco-y feel, this remix emphasizes the use of gospel and soulful vocals. With the simplicity of a stuttered bass and funky keyboard melody, this tune is perfect for a long drive down the highway – windows down, sun in your face.

Louis Benoit – Clark Kent EP [Ciao Records]

It was a sad, sad day in the electro house world, when news had spread that the veteran Italian duo, Crookers, had broken up. I’m at least happy to see Phra keeping the Crookers name and work alive, along with his new label. Crookers always had a knack for releasing some of the most unique and different sounding tracks, so it’s no surprise that tradition lives on through Ciao Records. The up and coming London-based duo, Louis Benoit, gives us a 2 song EP as the second release off Ciao Records. Louis Benoit had several solo releases on various labels prior to being recognized by Crookers, and their Clark Kent EP features a very cool and unique sound. These guys are definitely looking to make a name for themselves with their originality: watch out for Louis Benoit!
