We were lucky enough to get an interview with Justin Golshir, Founder and CEO of JustGo Music to learn more about the the amazing new service.
Why did you feel the need to create the JustGo product?
JustGo Music started out as an idea in my bedroom almost two years ago. I was studying music production and sound design at a music college in London, during my nights and weekends to escape my boring corporate day job.
I wanted to pursue a DJ/producer career and I realized that there was a big challenge of how to market and promote yourself. It’s a critical part to building a career, but there were no genuinely useful tools out there to help you do it. Let’s face it, for most DJs, it’s generally a big pain in the ass to manage your social media and communication! There’s simply not enough time in the day.
So I decided to launch JustGo Music as a platform to help aspiring electronic music artists build a career.
What is the target market for this product. Is it main electronic artists?
For now, we’re focused 100% on electronic music because that’s what we know and love. Many of team came from successful electronic music brands and companies, like Ministry of Sound, Beatport, record promotion and DJ management companies. We love the scene and want to push electronic music culture forwards. One of our core objectives as a company is to build a platform that honours the true power of electronic music: connectivity.
 
Where are you based?
We’re based in Shoreditch London. Feel free to stop by our office on Friday afternoons for free beer and huge back to back DJ sessions (mixing quality not guaranteed).
How many employees do you have? 
We have 11 full time employees and a small team of interns.
Who are the main / core team members?
There’s myself and my Co-Founders Alexis Orssich and Terry Church. Alexis, our CTO, graduated from Cambridge and was formerly Technical Director at Timeout.com.
Terry was a former editor at DJ Magazine, was the Founding Editor of Beatportal, Beatport’s editorial platform (today known as Beatport News). He’s done PR for some of the biggest names in electronic music including Luciano, David Guetta, Dubfire, Eric Prydz, Visionquest. Sasha & Digweed and Space Ibiza.
When did you start your business?
We launched the early beta version of JustGo Music in July 2012 and have been slowly iterating the product ever since by working closely with the industry and listening to our users. We’re committed to building a product that genuinely helps artists.
How many users do you have?
We have several thousand artists and labels registered on the site now including big artists like Tiesto, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia and Avicii as well as underground artists like Eats Everything, Seth Troxler and Richy Ahmed. We have many, many more fans on the site too, who use it every day to receive updates and discover music from their favourite DJs.
Plans for the future?
For now, we really just want to make our product better every day by listening to the needs and wants of our community. We hope to make the electronic music world stronger and better connected.

Dub Scout: Eastern Flex x Wrapper

Gx1Vj3jPrime Volta Media kicks off the label with a wonderful two track EP from Dub Scout! Eastern Flex, the middle eastern A side to the EP, seems to draw heavily on the hejaz scale or Phrygian Dominant or “Freygish” as it’s main tonal center. Right off the bat, Eastern Flex transports me to the egyptian pyramids, with sitars and the faint sound of sand dunes being blown by the wind and then, out of nowhere, I find myself on the edge of a chasm, falling into a tidal wave of Koven style bass. Dub Scout really has outdone himself with this one; with it being played out beforehand by the likes of Koven, there’s no telling how far this chap will go.

The B side to this EP is Wrapper, a more ambient style dubstep track, with some obvious Asa x Kursa x KOAN Sound influences; definitely something worth checking out.

Metallo Case

The new designer Metallo cases defend your smartphone and are machined and anodized from a single aluminum metal block. Each unit takes nearly an hour to machine the unique V-ANGLE design and finishes. The lightweight Metallo can be used independently of the VAMP VERZA as one of the back plates is designed for ultra-portable use. GETTING STARTED

To unleash Slussen, plug the adapter into your iPhone, iPod or other iOS device and download the Slusen app. Connect your headphones and sound system into the adapter via the two 3.5mm jacks.  Launch the app, and that’s it.  Slussen’s pre-listening feature ensures that the tunes are always bumping, even while preparing the next track.

LOADING YOUR DECKS

Open a track by tapping the name field on top of each deck. Choose the track you would like to play in the drop down menu. Repeat the procedure on the other deck. The track will automatically start playing once loaded onto a deck. You can scroll through a track by sliding your finger along the waveform or by tapping the fast forward and rewind buttons.

MIXING TWO TRACKS

Once you’ve hit play on one of your decks, you can control whether the music is heard in your speakers or not. Slide the crossfader to the side on which you want to be heard. You are now ready to press play on the other deck. To make mixing easier, make sure you press the sync button so that the two decks are in perfect sync. Please note that the two tracks need to be fully analyzed before you can press the sync button. You know this is done when the waveform is fully visible. Once the two tracks are in sync you are ready to mix them.

USING THE EQUALIZER

Slussen’s powerful equalizer is accessible by tapping and holding the EQ button on the middle of each deck. Once that is done, you will be presented with four options. Slide your finger towards the option you would like to adjust. Slide clockwise to increase and counter clockwise to decrease. Similarly, you can adjust the other equalizers and the gain. Adjusting the equalizer is great way to make your mixing smoother.

 

PREVIEW NEXT TRACK THROUGH HEADPHONES

To pre-listen to a track you’d like to mix into your set, tap the headphone button and slide the headphone crossfader from side to side. If you don’t have the Slussen adapter plugged in, you won’t be able to use the pre-listening feature and you should change your settings in the settings menu.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONALITIES

  • Kill all – Kill the EQ effects on the respective side
  • 125 BPM – increase the BPM of a track or change the pitch by tapping the BPM button
  • Sync button – press this button to make sure that two different tracks are played in perfect sync
  • Equalizer – press and hold the EQ button to adjust the equalizer or gain
  • Scratch function – press and move any of the decks while they are playing to scratch
  • Crossfader – slide from right to left to choose which side should be heard in your speakers
  • Headphone crossfader – lets you choose which deck you will hear in your headphones
  • Cue feature – cue instantly, or set a new cue-point by tapping the cue button

HELLA NEWSWORTHY: IRON AND WINE RELEASE NEW SONG

Oh, Iron and Wine, how we’ve secretly missed you. Yesterday, the band released their new song “Lovers’ Revolution” on Youtube and the release date of their fifth album Ghost on Ghost, due out April 15 or 16.

Though the album title sounds like a name for supernatural porn, the song is much more promising.

Surprisingly, the band steered away from their whispering folk style toward a more jazz groove. Clear vocals, soulful backup singers, saxophones, and jazz drum replace soft spoken lyrics and acoustic guitars.

This cannot be Iron and Wine. And if it is, I’m not mad.

Let’s face it. Before “Lovers’ Revolution,” they were pretty much a one folky trick pony. When we wanted to be existential and gloomy, we turned on some Iron and Wine with a bottle of red wine and tissues by our sides.

This song sends you to a dimly lit basement speakeasy circa 1950 where everyone’s drinking scotch and smoking unfiltered cigarettes.

The groove and strength of the song can only create anticipation for their next album whether or no you’re a long time fan. This is definitely a band that needed an evolution, and now that it’s come, we’re all grateful.

The Maiden Voyage of Holy Ship! goes down in history as a game changer. The ship set sail from Ft Lauderdale, FL on January 6, 2011 and from that moment, nothing would ever be the same for the Artists and the passengers who were on board. Shipmates became an instant family and the vibe was palpable everywhere you turned.
