Chiho Aoshima – A Contented Skull (2003)

Shinichi Osawa’s The One is a bit of a wildcard when it comes to pressings, there’s a bunch of different ones out there as I found when I picked up the expanded version with a ton of remixes on it. There’s some strange changes on there too, like swapping out The Golden for a longer, alternate mix just called The Golden 2. The story’s the same with Our Song, but in addition to the altered mix, the Japanese vocals of the original (A Lonely Girl Version) are swapped out with some different english ones along with a different subtitle (We Are All Innocent). There’s both pretty stellar tracks, but the original is the one I fell in love with and am sharing with you lot today!

Suicide Sundaes – Week 121

Suicide Sundaes - Stop your grinnin’ and drop your linen, Sunday is back. Greg and Thom are here to bring you the week’s dirty servings, and some old favorites through a throwdown-throwback to simpler times. A time when bangers were big, remixes were bigger, the bassline bled, and we didn’t care about anything as long as came in kicking and left screaming.

Hang on to your seat because Greg and I have gathered a massive and brutal selection for this week’s Suicide Sundae. Why? Just for you to satisfy this hunger for music and to get ready for the week ahead. Sprinkles will get you up on your feet, and Scoops will leave you dancing and screaming like there’s no tomorrow. Don’t forget the Streams section too, which holds a bit of everything. Ready?

Owl Vision‘s coming back at us this week with a deep and heavy remix of Ghost‘s “Monstrance Clock”. GRVBBRS is bringing us a great glitchy/grimmy track “Higher”, this one has Justice written all over it. Ryan Riot is remixing The Other Tribe‘s “We Should Be Dancing” and it’s going to cause you to want to start dancing (go figure). It’ll be pretty hard to not tap your feet and bob your head to this one. Zomboy‘s “Here to Stay” (ft Lady Chann) is being remixed by Geometry as well as a version by Aylius, and they’re both huge bangers, the kind you could easily blow your speakers with if you aren’t careful (and that is definitely a good thing). Drivepilot‘s bringing the trash back with his remix of the already heavy banger, Black Tiger Sex Machine – “Destroy It”. Also part of this week’s selection are tracks from Moustache Machine, Myndset, Kastra, Savant, Andy’s iLL, Beef Theatre, Kiely Rich and much more.

And don’t forget, if you’re a producer and you want to see if your music has what it takes to be on Suicide Sundaes, submit your mp3s to our SoundCloud Group. We’ll take a listen and include the best tracks. Please submit only one or two tracks at a time (320 kbps mp3s) and please try to keep the tracks limited to what you may hear on one of our SS posts (ie. no hip-hop, trap, etc.).

[ELECTRO/HOUSE] Bingo Players – Buzz Cut (Matt Prey Bootleg)

After I saw the original video teaser of Bingo Players new song “Buzz Cut” (with the sublime [to say the least] Melanie Iglesias) I knew that this track would be one of the biggest songs of the Festival season. It has every element to become a summer anthem and already more than 350 000 views in 2 days on youtube. We couldn’t wait 3 more days before the release date so we jumped on the opportunity and our Matt Prey did an extended bootleg just for you guys…and for free download! We also did a new music video for the track, we took the original concept but multiplied the hot girls by 1000. Enjoy!

Earmilk X Wavefront Music Festival – Last Chance Round

Chicago’s Wavefront Music Festival (July 5, 6, & 7) might not have as much hype as some of it’s bigger festival siblings, but it’s hands down one of our favourites of the year. The festival is held on Chicago’s famed Montrose Beach, boasts more than 100 artists performing on 4 stages, and caps each day off with firework displays over Chicago’s incomparable lakefront. What really makes this festival special, beyond the epic location, is one of the best pound for pound lineups in the world — this year Diplo, Dubfire, Hot Natured (Live), Justice, Maya Jane Coles, Nicolas Jaar, Seth Troxler, and many more will all share the lake-view stage.  We’ll be covering the entirety of the festival, so be sure to check back here for awesome goodies and exclusive features.

In the leadup to the festival, Wavefront has hosted an epic DJ invitational to give two deserving producers the chance to play a once in a lifetime set at the festival. Four producers have already been selected to enter into a DJ battle at Castle nightclub on Friday May, 24th where the top two performances will win a spot in the lineup.

As part of our emerging artists series we’re giving one of the runners up one last chance to make it into the final as part of a Last Chance Round. Starting today until Sunday, May 19th at 11:59PM, you can help one of these artists’  track rank up the chart for one last chance to get into the final and round out the top five.

As an added bonus, the artists will all be included in our emerging artist series and our coverage on the festival, with the winner being featured.  So make sure to check out these artists and cast your vote below.

DJ Earl – "Ambient" [EP]

Sometimes he is Deejay Earl and sometimes he is DJ Earl, but whatever he is called, there is no doubt that this 22-year-old from the windy city, Chicago, has serious talent and he has hit it out the park again with another superb EP released by Chicago-based Footwork Frenzy.

DJ Earl‘s sound is more muted and restrained than his peers at Teklife, hence the name of the EP, “Ambient”.  It draws influences from all over, with a soulful woman’s voice to start with on “I Feel It”. He continues his strong start of “I Feel It” with a faster-paced, heavily percussioned beat, “I Need You”. Following on from this is his heavily-house-synthed and perhaps highlight of the EP, “Alive N Well”. Ironically, the EP’s title track, “Ambient”, is anything but, and is the most upbeat, heaviest number on the EP, showing that Earl has a sense of humor as well as serious talent.

Robin Thicke – "Pretty Little Heart" (Blue Version Remix)

Blue Version is a 23 year old United Kingdom producer now residing in Vancouver, BC. He took on Robin Thicke’s single “Pretty little Liars”. Those who love the original will enjoy the remix and the subtle additions that were added. Blue Version’s calming production style is unique in a way due to him opting for slower RnB songs as apposed to heavy hip hop bangers which seems to be the norm lately. This is refreshing and comes as no surprise after reading his list of influencers which include; Kaytranada, The Field, and Nicolas Jaar. For those that were too slow to catch on or maybe had a sad childhood the name “Blue Version” is in reference to the Pokemon game that swept the world (literally) in the late nineties.  I feel old thinking about it now but its still a pretty dope name especially since I can proudly say I beat the Blue and Red Version. Back to the topic at hand– other standouts from this young producer include his remix of JMSN’s “Somewhere” and Lana Del Ray’s “Chelsea Hotel No. 2″. Stream below and follow him for news and updates.

Fastback

Heard of Fastback? I wouldn’t be surprised if you said no. For someone with as much talent as this guy, it’s impressive how little popularity he has. My first exposure to this guy was on a Daft Punk fan message board, where he became a hero with his uncanny inside knowledge on the French Touch scene (do we still call it that? I don’t know I’m so out of… touch). He threw us all for a loop by going by the screen name Akchote, and slowly deviating from the trap style productions he had been posting into things like… this.
He had photos of promo CDs of SebastiAn remixes that hadn’t be released, information about the new Kavinsky album, and information about SebastiAn and a few other Ed Banger crewmembers’ activities… then after all the conjecture that perhaps he was actually SebastiAn began flying, he posted this.

Which was followed by Noel Akchote, SebastiAn’s older brother and famed French country musician joining the message board and tearing this guy down as a stalker and general creep-o. It was all rather weird, but somewhat entertaining I guess. Ah, internet….

I still don’t know what to think, honestly. Nor do I care, I guess. I follow Fastback on Soundcloud, and I am frequently blown away by the amazing quality of this guy’s electro. Some of his tracks are available for sale on his bandcamp page.

Adrian – RN141 [EP]

After announcing the release of his third EP RN141 a few months ago, French producer Adrian, an active member of So French Records, is back to introduce the full official video realized by team Hey Pigs and directed by Arthur Sauvadon. In this brillant short cut movie, the main character sinks from the beginning to the end into a “deluded state”. Hallucinations and monstrous apparitions follow him on his journey.

The EP, RN141 which adopts a dark electro style, gathers four quality original tracks: “Dream in Coma”, “Block”, “Deluded State”, and “Lucky Day”, as well as four quality remixes by Mac Stanton1ino1eum, Soul Machine and The Rampage.
