Lana Del Rey – Diet Mountain Dew (Tommy Noble Remix) : Heavy Dubstep / Drumstep / Indie Remix

Today we get another remix to Lana Del Rey. We heard a hip hop and mellow dubstep remix to “Video Games”. Well now we get a really heavy reworking of her track “Diet Mountain Dew” done by Tommy Noble, a two piece duo from the Central Coast of California. For this track, they flipped the very soft sung track by Lana Del Rey and really kick up the bass. The drop is HUGE and smooth. This is meant for some massive speakers, so don’t ruin it with laptop speakers. Turn up the bass, enjoy1

California 90420 Opens on 4/20 in Theaters Nationwide

A new documentary, featuring Dubstep artist Johnny 5 as one of the main characters in this film, is opening this week. Having seen a screening of the documentary I can say that is a great story about 4 people who are involved in various ways with the 420 culture. It’s extremely informative and has a great soundtrack! Written and Directed by Dean Shull of “Waiting” fame, this is definitely one to check out. You can go to www.90420.com to see if it’s showing in your area.

From the Press Release:
CALIFORNIA, 90420
MARIJUANA DOCUMENTARY OFFERING AN IN-DEPTH LOOK INSIDE
OAKSTERDAM UNIVERSITY, “WEED COLLEGE,” OPENS ON 4/20

Oaksterdam University Was Recently Raided by Federal Agents -

Each year, marijuana enthusiasts and activists around the country gather to celebrate 4/20 as a holiday. This year, a new documentary entitled CALIFORNIA, 90420 will be released on 4/20 in over 50 theaters nationwide, making it one the widest theatrical releases ever for a marijuana-related documentary.

90420 focuses on the rapidly open and growing marijuana trade in the State of California, which is setting precedent for the rest of the nation. The film explores the burgeoning ‘above ground’ industry through the eyes of four, 20-something characters whose real lives are caught up in the changing green landscape. This groundbreaking feature documentary is directed by Dean Shull, one of the guys that brought you the hit comedy, WAITING…

The release of CALIFORNIA 90420 could not be timelier, and not just because of the upcoming annual national celebration day of marijuana on April 20th. The film follows faculty and students at California’s Oaksterdam University, the nation’s first college to prepare students for careers in the ever changing marijuana industry and the epicenter of legalization efforts in California. Last Monday, federal agents from the DEA and IRS raided Oaksterdam University as well as the
home of Oaksterdam University Founder, Richard Lee. Although medical marijuana is legal in California, it is still prohibited under federal law, leaving Oaksterdam in a precarious legal limbo.

With Oaksterdam University now the subject of intense media scrutiny, CALIFORNIA 90420 offers viewers a unique, unfiltered perspective into what really takes place behind the doors of the school. Following last week’s raid, Richard Lee announced his intention to step down as the leader of Oaksterdam University and pass the pipe to Dale Sky Jones, the current Executive Chancellor of Oaksterdam University.

A share of proceeds from the opening weekend box office will be donated to Oaksterdam University, in order to help ensure the school’s continued survival. CALIFORNIA 90420 will open on April 20, 2012, in select cities in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Dubstomp Wompday #49

Ok folks, we’re gonna be honest right off the bat…there’s a new Skrillex song in this post. Now we know that some people despise Sonny, he’s a polarizing figure no doubt, but his sheer talent and popularity amongst the bass community is undeniable. Love him or hate him, his new track ‘Make Dem Bun‘  featuring [...]

Bofia – The Dubs Of Hazard’s Villa Mixtape Series Episode 3

Here’s the third episode of my “Villa Mixtape Series”! This time it’s my boy Bofia who’s on the decks! Simply mental!!

~The Dubs Of Hazard

Coming from Vila Nova de Gaia, Bófia invaded the portuguese musical spectrum, with sounds of a cannibal hollocaust thirsty to devour the putridity of an increasingly faded and hollow society.Breathing hip hop and hardcore`s reallity, since his childhood, he blends all his influences into a very unique style, wihout any pre-conceived musical rules or ideas.
Bofia already shared the stage with Dubstep international artists, such as: 16 Bit, 1-Way, Borgore, Bare, Balkansky, Cooki Monsta, Coki, Captain Crunch, Doctor P, Flux Pavillion, Pixel Fist, Randomer, Sluggo, Slum Dogsz or Tomba.

All the blood, sweat and tears that he puts into djiing took his talent beyond borders, attracting the attention of the UK based label Dubzilla, who signed him as resident dj.

Wobble Wednesday

The weekend has come and gone, and now you’re deep into your weekly grind. Never fear, Wobble Wednesday is back with more of your favorite face-melting bass drops to help you make the most of your mundane lifestyle. Today I’ll be guiding you along through the many variations of bass music that we see these days, new and old. I wanted to turn the Wobble Wednesday feature into more than just a section for today’s dubstep, so I decided it was only right to incorporate some drum & bass as well as an oldies section into the weekly feature.

You’ll be hearing amazing bass-driven tunes from the softer, chiller side of dubstep to the filthy, grimier side that everybody loves to rage to. I’ll also dip into the world of drum & bass as well as add some classic tunes from the ‘golden age’ of dubstep. All I ask from you guys is to enjoy and download. Once the weekend hits, steal the iPod at the party and throw on these songs. Guarantee it will make the place jump!

BASS

Some big name artists released some new tracks this week. Seven Lions has a new EP out now, off of which I decided to feature his exclusive track “Isis,” as well as third track off Alvin Risk‘s highly anticipated new EP, set to release soon. Dillon Francis officially released his new Flux Pavilion remix this week, which makes it a requirement to be featured here. Dillon has an uncanny ability in his remixes to add just that little extra bit into a song that makes it unmistakably a Dillon Francis tune, all while keeping the essence and melody that make it a great original.

FILTH

When it comes to Wobble Wednesday, I like to post unknown as well as popular artists, to keep things fresh. So yes, I am including the new Skrillex tune featuring Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley. This song leaked out a few weeks ago, but it was finally officially released the other day. “Make It Bun Dem” goes back to the days of early reggae dub with a new modern Skrilly-feel. About a month ago Dim Mak Records teamed up with ARTISTdirect.com for a remix competition of Datsik‘s new single “Fully Blown” and the winner happened to be Vermont’s own The Frim. All I can say is that I told you all to be on the lookout for this guy, he’s going places.

OLDIES

This week I go back deep with some of the more prominent names in early garage and dubstep. Plastician, N-Type, and Distance have all paved the way for future dubstep acts in their own individual ways. Here’s just a taste of their earlier wobbles.

DRUM & BASS

With a heavy hip hop influence, Candyland can do more than your average dubstep duo. Their beat combinations are just as well thought out as their perfectly scorching bass lines, which is why I think they have gotten so popular in the recent years. Their newest remix of Kaskade‘s “Room For Happiness” shows how they can take a heavy progressive house song and slow it down to a calming drum & bass tune. Admittedly, a lot of the help goes to the beautiful vocals by Skyler Grey.

CHILL

“Escape” by Mt. Eden has been around for a couple years, but it looks like it was just finally officially mastered. It’s a crushing anthem with a choir that constantly fades in and out throughout the song, with a subtle but still heavy bass line that is not over powering in the least. Blackmill is the master of all things melodic. If there are any young DJs out there trying to perfect the art of chillstep, take notes from this heavy hitter, Blackmill has it down to a science.

Channel Robot releases Grid Machine Slice – Dubstep Beats

Loopmasters has introduced Dubstep Beats, a new title in the “Grid Machine // Slice” series of Kontakt libraries by Channel Robot. Kaskade & Skrillex – Lick It (Official Video) + Remixes

Earlier I happened upon a mysterious link to a Kaskade & Skrillex ‘official video’.  ”Hm, ‘Lick It’, that’s a good song I bet it’s a good video too”. First Reaction to the video was utter shock and confusion. On the second time through I was able to get a bit more understanding, but only when I [...]

Kaskade & Skrillex – Lick It (Datsik Remix)

Although he just came out with his debut studio album, Vitamin D, Datsik hasn’t stopped.  He’s now released a remix to Lick It, the collaborative effort of Kaskade and Skrillex.  An already unlikely pairing, Datsik has taken this beat and given it his usual “bro’ed out” laser-infested sound.  For those who still dig the filth upon filth jams, this one is for you.

Maya Jane Coles DJ-Kicks Mix ft. Not Listening & Meant To Be

electronic dance music blog

Britain’s’ own Maya Jane Coles released some exclusive material on her DJ Kicks compilation mix for K7 records including “Not Listening”. Contrary to the tracks title, you should definitely be digesting this tasty vitamin.

I first heard the 24 year old, on her debut Essential Mix for the legendary Pete Tong and his BBC Radio1 show (Nominated for best essential mix of 2011). From there I was able to absorb her unique, and extremely encapsulating sound.  Words such as “journey” have been used to describe her sets, and this diverse Dj-Kicks mix is no exception (grab it here).

Tracklist

  • 01. Deft – Loqux & Past
  • 02. Kris Wadsworth – Mainline (Jimmy Edgar Remix)
  • 03. Chasing Kurt – Money

  • 21. Marcel Dettmann – Translation Two
  • 22. Claro Intelecto – Hunter’s Rocket To The Sky

She has come a long way since then, and continues to bring her high quality skills with this mix.  Her impressive track selection coupled with her flawless mixing skills, combine for a peaceful yet intriguing product.  On a number of occasions, I’ve caught myself completely loosing sense of time when listening to her material. The best kind of Vacay, if you ask me.

One of her debut tracks in the mix, “Not Listening” features her distinctive crunchy hi hat, with wavy synths and resonating samples. She also treated us to another exclusive entitled “Meant to Be” released under her alias Nocturnal Sunshine. Maya herself has classified her alter ego as more experimental, going back to an early British 1-2 step dub sound.

  • Maya Jane Coles – Not Listening (DJ-Kicks Exclusive)

A quote from DJ-Kicks about “Meant to Be” really reflects her diligent production etiquette.

“The Nocturnal Sunshine track is something I started about three years ago,” she continues. “I never managed to finish it. I kept going back to it, but it was never quite right. I came back to it again, totally stripped it back and redid it and it came out really well. It’s not normally something I would do. Normally, if I can’t finish something I scrap it. The tracks I’m happiest with are normally the ones that come naturally and quite instantly. When I spend too much time working on something it can lose that specialness. If it’s too much effort then it doesn’t feel right. But in this instance it just had something that I really liked. I’m really glad I came back to it.

There’s a river running red somewhere through Egyptian lands, the tribal people lining the banks become part of the beat, whispering in foreign tongues. Sounds of woodwinds and sitars snake along over the beats of thousands of hollow bongos and congas made of wood cut from the trees. They fill the air like the dense jungle around it. Whispering behind all of the different rhythmic layers—amidst a spider web of full sounds, whirring and beating around a deep bass current that pulls your hips with it—barely audible to the untrained ear, is a heavy, mysterious breathing, letting you in on a secret—

no, Freddy Krugar did not just take a trip to London and learn production techniques from legends of UK bass.

But J-Hilla did.

See 3:36 in “River Runs Red” for the revelation.

Every track on this EP is layered like a lush jungle, and J brings us a masterful mix of beats, so it’s like you’re running through—with each passing second you’re peeking around bushes and trees, and stumbling upon new things, like the piano progressions and magical melodies that somehow work awesomely with tribal beats in “Black Pudding.” Then a gun shot and a drop followed by downtempo brooding, finishing with the deep bass carrying you onward again.

Tempos peak with 909s in “281,” whatever club this is played at may now proceed to blow the fuck up. Wake up. The wait is over. This is that ill future bass shit; pretty impossible to classify, but really necessary to listen to. This is the type of music that you have to hear to believe … and it’s getting me super excited for the sounds that will be coming from J in the future.

So I’ll calm down with “Fuse.”

Skrillex & Damian Marley – Make It Bun Dem

The track previously known as Rudeboy Bass has been uploaded in all it’s glory to the official Soundcloud of Damian Marley. Despite the change in name, Make It Bun Dem remains a controversial track. I still it enjoy it though, and love Damian’s vocals as well as the reggae vibes.

David Guetta – Turn Me On (Arion Remix)

Another huge remix from Arion up in here, this guy never ceases to amaze me with the songs he can remix. This time he has taken a song in my opinion is doomed to fail and never be popular or even near popular, Arion has turned this song in to a piece of art.The song starts slow but Arion’s bass assaults your ears and hold all the way through to what some people call “vocals”. I am amazed by his versatility of remixing done to these horrible pop songs, and the crazy part is they still sound good! Arion is giving this remix away for free , well almost free… You are required to enter your email to unlock the download of the song and it will be sent to your email and you can just follow the download link from there. Its just as easy as that!

Seven Lions – Polarize EP

Dubstep is generally recognized for the heavy drops and massive bass lines that tend to please the masses. Although I enjoy that stuff as much as anyone there’s another aspect of dubstep that a grow more and more fond of every day. Most commonly you see it called “chillstep” although its all just dub to me. Bass lines that drive melodies to create a more beautifully deep side of bass music this somewhat calmer and more melodic form of dub is truly awesome. Among many artist whose style I have grown to love Seven Lions is a name that rises to the top! The first time I heard his remix of Ocean Lab’s Satellite I knew that Seven Lions  was someone to keep an eye on, and I was even more impressed once his remix of You Got To Go by Above & Beyond was released. Now I couldn’t be more excited to share with all of you his debut EP Polarize. With this release I think Seven Lions shows not only how talented he is. With six tracks on the EP displaying the broad range of what this style can provide and a DnB remix for a little change of pace. The Polarize EP will be available next week, April 23rd, but you can listen to it now on the SoundCloud player below. Also you can download the 5th track titled Isis for free now!

Flux Pavilion- Daydreamer feat. Example (Original+Dillon Francis Remix)

Flux Pavilion

Dubstep DJ/producer Flux Pavilion has collaborated with British singer/rapper Example to make his latest single “Daydreamer”. The track has a pretty laid back feel at the start compared to Flux’s other tracks, but it then leads in to that UK dubstep sound that Flux is known for. Example, who is known for his work on Laidback Luke’s “Natural Disaster” adds nice vocals, which really compliments the track on the more acoustic parts.

Flux also released a remix of this track done by Dillon Francis. Dillon Francis adds his usual moombahton sound to the track, which definitely makes it more upbeat. He also gives it a drum step feel by enhancing the drum trills in the beginning of the track. Both tracks are set to be officially released later this month.

This guy makes the craziest dubstep ive ever heard, now I am a very big fan of Skrillex and Excision who are both dubstep heavyweights but I think they better watch there backs because Nostalgia is coming. He was also nice enough to give away a free track pack titled Nostalgia Loves You, this free track pack includes 11 of Nostalgia’s sick dubstep tunes and can be downloaded for free here. So listen to those tracks and post how good you think they are. Like Nostalgia on facebook and follow him on Twitter. He has already released some tracks on Beatport for Play Me Too, lets see who signs him next.

Ephixa & Stephen Walking – Substance VIP

Now I have posted about many lesser well known artists. Some of them include Arion, Notixx, and now two other artists who are making huge tracks. Ephixa & Stephen Walking two of the most prominent artists on the Monstercat label have experience in a range of dance music genres. Ephixa has done trance, hard trance, hardstyle, electro, and dubstep tracks. In my opinion the less versatile but just as good Stephen Walking who mainly does dubstep tracks. Now how awesome would it be to have these to awesome producers together? Well, its amazing and its Substance VIP the VIP mix of there collaboration song Substance. As if the song wasnt good enough, now theres a VIP and lucky for you guys I happen to have it right here: Now give these guys some love here:

Flux Pavilion BBC Essential Mix

It’s a hallmark of every great producer. It’s the prestigious chance to construct an immaculate, 2 hour set of your finest taste in music. The  renown BBC Essential Mix added one more superstar to its legendary ranks last night, and he goes by the name of Flux Pavilion. As Steele himself states, the mix is a bit of a history lesson in the dynamic offerings of Circus Records, though it jumps around to a multitude of genres. The mix is a tour de force of cleanly mixed, delightful, at times destructive and daunting, dubstep. Some of my favorites from the tremendous track list include Brown and Gammon’s remix of “Jurassic”, the Funtcase remix of “Hot Pursuit”, and Trolley Snatcha’s “Make My Whole World”. But who am I kidding, the whole damn mix is absolutely stunning. Close to the middle of the mix, Flux descends into a moombahton medley, dropping Feed Me’s “One Click Headshot”, an unreleased collaboration from Datsik and Diplo, as well as the forthcoming Dillon Francis remix to Flux’s own “Daydreamer”. Other hidden, unreleased gems in the mix include Flux’s forthcoming track “Lift You Higher” as well as Roksonix’s smashing remix to Nero’s “Me and You”. Check out the two hour mix below.

Strange Talk – Eskimo Boy (Draper Remix) : Must Hear Smooth Dubstep / Indie Remix

Today I’ve got an example of my favorite type of dubstep lately. It’s from Draper, a newer dubstep artist from Kent, UK. It has the more flowful, smooth, “liquid” sounding dubstep, reminding me of Adventure Club. This is a remix of a track “Eskimo Boy” by Strange Talk which has some great vocals. Draper pumped it full of sweet, smooth sounding bass. It’s a great balance of the bass and original track. Turn it up, enjoy!

Skream and Benga 2012-04-13 Dismantle’s History of Bass track

“Dismantle is on the phone to select his entry for A History of Bass in 100 Tracks and Tim Westwood’s Moisture Moment gets Showjacked by the boys.
Then things get slowed down for 130 and 11:30, where they showcase their favourite house tracks of the minute. And for the last half an hour there’s only music and no chat for the Slammers and Bangers mix!
Bass, beats and banter for two hours with Skream and Benga.”

BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix 2012-04-14 Flux Pavilion

“Flux Pavilion lays down the bass on the world’s favourite mix show.
Joshua Steele, aka Flux Pavilion, is the co-founder of Circus Records along with Doctor P. He was nominated in the BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll. His track ‘I Can’t Stop’ was sampled on Jay Z and Kanye West’s album ‘Watch The Throne’. And he’s about to release the first single ‘Daydreamer’ featuring Example with a debut album to follow.”

Cazzette- Bjornstammen

Cazzette uploaded this track on their Soundcloud today and I think it has the potential to become one of this year’s summer anthems. It’s a remix of a Swedish song and the remix itself contains a wide variety of sounds that you wouldn’t think would work together, but they do. The track starts off with an electro house sound, then leads in to what sounds like a flute, then goes in to a Calypso style beat, and then in to some hard bass that Cazzette is known for. The lyrics in the song are in Swedish, which Cazzette provided the translation for on their Soundcloud.

“Wherever I turn in the world
I still stand here with empty hands
Waiting for something to save me”

The song is categorized as “Dub House” on their Soundcloud, and I think that sums it up perfectly. In my opinion Dubstep and House are two very different genres on opposite sides of the spectrum, so i’m surprised how well this combination turned out. Kudos Cazzette, Kudos.

Flux Pavillion – Daydreamer feat. Example (Music Video) : Huge Dubstep Single + Video

Flux Pavillion is back with a music video for his latest HUGE collaboration with vocals from Example. This track that dropped a few weeks ago is the perfect dubstep anthem, packed with tons of bass, yet not too filthy. This is the kind of dubstep that you could hear on the radio. It has catchy vocals, and amazing buildups and drops. It’s a real sick video with some great shots of Flux Pavillion and Example and some big crowds.  Turn up the bass for this one, enjoy!
